Beyond Belief

Definitions are often useful things. According to the U.S. House of Representatives Office of the Law Revision Counsel, "the United States Code is a consolidation and codification...of the general and permanent laws of the United States." US Code Section 2381 provides the following definition: "Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid (emphasis mine) and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason."

Earlier today, Wednesday June 10th, President Trump announced that follow strikes against Iranian targets earlier this week, the U.S. will "hit 'em hard again today". Later in the day, Secretary of Defense Hegseth confirmed that more attacks will come tonight. It is a level of irresponsibility that puts Signalgate to shame.

It is 100% guaranteed that Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen who live in Hampton Roads will be part of those attacks. Hundreds or thousands of military families across Hampton Roads will go to bed this evening wondering if their loved ones will be killed tonight because the Iranians knew they were coming.

No matter where you stand on the Iran war, there can be no justification for this gross dereliction of duty by our nation's most senior leaders. Equally appalling, there is not a single word of protest from over 4300 Republicans elected to the US Congress and 50 state legislatures across the country.

It is conventional wisdom that one has to hit rock bottom before a truly successful recovery can begin. Let us hope that we're nearing that bottom, before thousands more Hampton Roads service members have to risk their lives for irresponsible leaders.
